WHY DO WE DEDICATE BABIES?
We see throughout scripture a consistent pattern of dedicating children to God. Like Samuel was given for a lifetime of service in the temple, we are now all new covenant priests and should live and give our entire lives to Christ's work. When you dedicate your child, you are dedicating yourself to raising them in faith to the best of your ability, and dedicating their lives as set apart for God’s purposes.
WHY NOT INFANT BAPTISM? ARE THEY THE SAME?
Infant baptism is not seen in scripture, but rather baptism is shown to be a personal decision that people make after choosing to follow Jesus. It’s a picture of how we identify with Christ in his death, burial, and resurrection; As we also die to our past selves and are born again by the spirit into newness of life.
